Hi! My name is Joonas Könttä, former member of parliament, 2019-2023. I’m a city counselor in Jyväskylä and a member of Central Finland’s regional council. I have worked as a diplomat in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. I’m also enthusiastic sports fan. In my free time, I like to go to gym or do judo, I train for several days per week, and go for a jog every now and then. I also like hunting and fishing.
Before I also worked as a Secretary General in the Ministry of Education and Culture and before that as an political assistant in the European parliament. I have a master’s degree in political science and my areas of specialty are Russian and Eastern European relations. I spent half a year in Russia to gain more insight and to strengthen my expertise about Russian society.
I also have work experience from working as a salesperson for several years, while I studied. During my studies in Jyväskylä University I was an active participant in student politics, and I was the chair in the council of representatives for a year in 2013.
Internationality, work and entrepreneurship, education, environment, wellbeing and justice are important to me. In my opinion, each individual has the right to decide how they want to live, however, in respect to others. Climate change is a fight we have to win. Circular economy is the modern way to create jobs. Wellbeing and taking care each other have always been important to me.
In order to live in the present Finnish society, we all need to see the bigger picture and support one another. I know how to make the change from bottom to up. I can deliver the change. With your help. Together.
