My name is Joonas Könttä. I am running for the parliament of Finland. I’m a 28-year-old  city counselor in Jyväskylä and enthusiastic sports fan. I work as a diplomat in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Before this I worked as a Secretary General in the Ministry of Education and Culture and before that as an political assistant in the European parliament. I have a master’s degree in political science and my areas of specialty are Russian and Eastern European relations. I spent half a year in Russia to gain more insight and to strengthen my expertise about Russian society.

I also have work experience from working as a salesperson for several years. During my studies in Jyväskylä University I was an active participant in student politics, and I was the chair in the council of representatives for a year in 2013.

In my free time, I like to go to gym, I train for several days per week, and go for a jog every now and then. I also like hunting and fishing.

Equality, spirit of entrepreneurship, internationality, freedom and respect for nature are my ideological values. In my opinion, each individual has the right to decide how they want to live, however, in respect to others. Climate change is a fight we have to win. Circulation economy is the modern way to create jobs. Well being and taking care each other have always been important to me. In order to live in the present Finnish society, we all need to see the bigger picture and support one another.

Stay in touch, I’m glad to hear from you.
